Banking on devastating wallops, fiery spikes, and neat placing, the beach volleyball ladies of the University of Santo Tomas continue marking a defeat-less campaign in UAAP Women’s Beach Volleyball tournament.
The rookie tandem, Cherry Rondina and Rica Rivera, dominated their fourth game last Aug. 28 at the University of the East in Caloocan against Bernadette Pons and Charm Simborio of the Far Eastern University Lady Spikers with superb spikes and organized defense, 21-15, 21-16.
Rondina led the offense, marking a 6-1 run including two consecutive service aces against the “crowd-favorites.”
Rondina and Rivera also ousted the UP Fighting Maroons represented by Hannah Mangulabnan and Arylle Magtalas, 21-6, 21-14, where Rondina scored 18 points.

The rookie tigresses clobbered Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles Michelle Morente and Jhoana Maraguinot 21-16, 21-11. Their win against the Eagles was followed by another convincing win against the University of the East Lady Warriors.
Rondina and Rivera endured the offense of De La Salle University’s Kim Fajardo and Cyd Demicillo to clinch their first win for the season.
"Sa tingin ko nagiging advantage 'yung pagiging rookie namin. Dahil 'yung iba, kapag narinig nilang rookie ang kalaban nila, bababaan nila 'yung laro nila. Pero kami [ni Cherry], kaya naming patunayan na kahit rookie lang kami, may ibubuga kami," Rivera told the Colosseo.
The rookies secured their slot for the semi-finals after setting a 5-0 win-loss record without dropping a set.
They will face the National University Lady Bulldogs and the defending champion Adamson University Lady Falcons to end the elimination round.
