Azkals’ goalie Patrick Deyto almost recorded a clean sheet until 16-year old forward of Global, Mark Winhoffer, stole the supposed goal kick from Deyto, 1-3.
Philippine team’s head coach Thomas Dooley initially tried an unusual 3-5-2 formation in the first half to “test the defensive tactics of the team against a team composed of imports,” but returned to the normal 4-4-2 in the second.
The exhibition match served as a tune-up game for the upcoming Peace Cup 2014 on Sept. 3 to 6 where Azkals will try to defend their crown against Chinese Taipei, Myanmar, and Palestine, the team that defeated Azkals in the finals of the AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives last May.
Azkals will banner a 23-man line up, a mix of veteran and young players.
Phil will lead the offense with Reichelt, Burkey, Curt Dizon, Mark Hartmann, and Kenshiro Daniels.
Midfieldes James Younghusband, Misagh Bahadoran, Jason de Jong, Manny Ott, OJ Porteria, Chris and Simon Greatwich, and Paul Mulders are included in the list.
Meanwhile, team captain Rob Gier will lead the defense with Juani Guirado, Carlie de Murga, Anton del Rosario, Rob Gier, Simone Rota, Amani Aguinaldo, and Daisuke Sato.
Azkals will also banner by Fil-German Goalkeeper Roland Muller and UAAP product Deyto. Midfielder Fitch Arboleda from the University of the East Men’s Football Team was listed as a reserve player.
The Philippine team will first face the Chinese Taipei on Wednesday, 7pm, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
